Lighting in Short Hills, NJ

Most Short Hills houses have been added onto at least once. You walk from a 1920s stair hall into a kitchen built last year, and if the lighting changes character at the doorway, you notice.

We plan the old rooms and the new ones together. That usually means period-style fixtures in the entry and dining room, recessed light that’s placed around the beams and plaster instead of on a grid, and the same warm color temperature everywhere. Short Hills is part of Millburn Township, with its own train station and streets full of colonials, Tudors and stone-and-stucco houses.

Big shade trees and old plantings hide a lot of these houses after dark. A little light grazing the stone or brick, a lit gable and a safe set of front steps is usually all it takes.

Short Hills FAQ

Do you serve Short Hills separately from Millburn?

Short Hills is part of Millburn Township, and we work all over both.

We are renovating an older Tudor. How do you add recessed lighting without spoiling the ceilings?

We use fewer, smaller trims, place them between beams or along the edges of the room, and let wall sconces and lamps do some of the work.

Can landscape lighting highlight stone or brick facades?

Yes. Light set close to the wall and aimed up brings out the texture. It looks better than a floodlight from across the lawn.
