Lighting Consultation & Specification

Expert advice before you buy

Most lighting problems start on paper: a fixture too small for the room, recessed lights in a grid that ignores the furniture, a dimmer that doesn’t suit the lamp. We’re lighting consultants, and our job is to catch those things before money is spent. Bring us drawings, a floor plan or a few photos, and we come back with a lighting layout and a fixture specification. Our guide to what a lighting designer costs in NJ explains what shapes the fee.

How it works

It works in five steps. First, a consultation about your needs, the look you want, the budget and the schedule. Second, a site visit, where a lighting designer takes photos and measurements and reviews the plans. Third, product selection with you. Fourth, design confirmation of each fixture and the budget. Last, we help with ordering and finish with a walkthrough.

Our full process

Specification

A lighting specification turns a design into products. Ours lists each fixture with its finish, size, lamp color, output and the control it needs, and every line ties to a symbol on the layout. Working as your lighting specifier, we also stay on for order facilitation and delivery tracking.

North Caldwell project

For businesses & design teams

On commercial work we can join a team that already has an architect or interior designer, acting as the commercial lighting consultant. Our portfolio includes Park Chateau and The Chateau Grande in East Brunswick, office suites for Regus in Fairfield and Commend in Mahwah, and the 300-unit Fort Lee Apartment Complex.

Lighting Consultation FAQ

How much does a lighting designer cost?

It depends on the size of the space and how much of the process you want us to handle. The first consultation is free, and we give you a clear price for the design once we understand the project.

What’s the difference between a lighting designer and a lighting consultant?

In practice, very little. A designer plans how the light should look and feel. A consultant advises on products, layout and budget. We do both on every project.

Is a lighting consultant worth it for one room?

No job is too small. A single kitchen or living room is a common place to start, and the process is the same.

Can you work from plans only?

Yes. Bring us your plans or a few pictures. We review them and visit the site when it helps.
