Lighting in Upper Saddle River, NJ
Upper Saddle River is mostly houses, and big ones. The lots are deep, the woods are mature, and a lot of the homes were custom built.
That scale is where lighting goes wrong. A two-story foyer with one chandelier and a ring of cans looks bright at noon and flat at night. We plan the whole floor at once, so the chandelier, the pendants and the recessed light are doing different jobs and can be dimmed separately. One project in our portfolio is a double-height living room with a crystal chandelier, and getting its height and size right took longer than anything else in the room.
Out front, the drive is part of the house. We light the curves and the walk to the door, put a little light into a few trees, and stop there. The woods should still look like woods, and the neighbors shouldn’t see your lights through them.

Upper Saddle River FAQ
Can you design lighting for a double-height foyer or great room?
Yes. Most of the work is sizing the main fixture and deciding how high it hangs. After that we add softer light lower down so the room works at night.
Our property is heavily wooded. Will outdoor lighting look overdone?
Not if it’s kept sparse. We usually light the path, the entry and two or three trees, and leave the rest dark.
Do you work from architectural plans for new custom homes?
We prefer it. Lighting is cheaper to get right on paper than after the drywall is up.
